Story of the Inventor: Richard Hellmann was a German immiggrant and came to America in 1905. In the 1920's Hellman made tartar sauce.
He used his wifes recipe for mayonnaise. Richard opened his first delicatessen in New York. Mayonnaise became so popular that he sold them in "Wooden Boats".
Story of the Invention: Originally two versions of mayonnaise were sold. Hellmann's put a blue ribbon around one type of mayo. Mayonnaise is said to be made originally by Duke de Richelieu. Light in Colesterol free mayo was made in the 1980's. In 2002 a special new mayonnaise was introduced. It is now own by Best Foods.
Story of the Impact of the Invention: Mayonnaise revoloutionized the way to make sandwiches. It also made more recipes in different countries.
Story of the Future of the Invention: It was put on sandwiches and some other things. Hellmann's Company is now coming out with more products than in 1922.
