Story of the Inventor:
George was a Native/ African American chef at the Moon Lake Lodge Resort in Saratoga Springs, New York USA. Crum's real name was George Speck. George Speck was born to Abraham and Catherine Speck. George also used the name Crum as his father did while working as a jockey. The industry that George Crum produced in 1853 continues to prosper and grow.
Story of the Invention:
Potato Chips were origionally called Saratoga Chips and Potato Crunchies. French fries were popular at the restarant and one day a diner complained that the french fries were to thick. He made fries that were so thin that it made potato chips. They were soon packaged and sold in New England. Crum later opened his own restaurant. The salesman Herman Lay sold potato chips to the southern USA (selling chips from the trunk of his car).
Story of the Impact of the Invention:
Potato Chips have become a famous snack food but is bad for your health. Even though it is made from potatoes, they contain lots of salt, fat, and they are deepfried.
Story of the Future of the Invention:
Potato chips could become the most popular snack food. We think that in the future potato chips should be lowfat and low in cholesterol.
